Scientific Computing

The Scientific Computing working group in IT was founded back in early 2003, and it focuses on many aspects of computing and storage related directly to the scientific research carried out at DESY.

The range of tasks the group deals with includes, but is not limited to:

  • Development and operation of mass storage applications in terms of hard- and software
  • Supply and development of storage middleware and scientific application software
  • Scientific support of experiments with respect to storage, High Performance Computing (HPC), High Throughput Computing (HTC), and Grid services.

All these services are provided in close cooperation with other IT working groups.

Scientific Computing serves as a connecting point between the research groups at DESY and the whole IT team for computing needs that go beyond basic services. This in particular involves the concept and design phase of new projects.
