Conditions of use
We inform the users of the Gitlab service about the conditions of use
The general "Conditions of Use for Information-Processing Systems at DESY" rules apply. As of 28.5.2021, these are: http://it.desy.de/e93779/BO-IV-DESY-Eng.pdf
In addition, the following rules specific to the Gitlab service apply:
- By using the service, data and metadata is added to code repositories. It is the nature and technology of Git and Gitlab service, that this data and metadata remains unchanged and visible for the whole lifetime of the repository. The repository, with all its data and metadata, is stored centrally on the Gitlab server, on backups of its data, but also distributed in user clones of the repository. By using the service, you agree that the data (the code you actually commit) as well as the metadata (e.g. your name, email address, commit comment) will be stored for the lifetime of the repository, without the possibility to be changed, anonymized, or deleted. It is in the legitimate interest of Git and Gitlab users, to be able to trace source code additions and changes for debugging and potential intellectual property rights reasons.
- The Gitlab service allows users and groups to limit the visibility scope of their repositories. Users and groups are responsible for properly setting these parameters.
- With using this service, you agree to be receive emails about longer maintenance and downtimes, and important news about the Gitlab service. An adequate mailing list will be used for these purpose only.
- The Gitlab service shall not be used to store personal data beyond what is accepted as scientific best practice for traceability. E.g. a comment The algorithm was implemented as suggested by Anna Müller, DESY is acceptable, whereas a collection of private phone numbers of group members is not.
- Metadata collected by gitlab or contained in the Git repositories shall not be used for employee job control.
