PostgreSQL databases for single users and test environments

General Information

In addition to PostgreSQL databases for productive services, we also offer instances for individuals and test environments.
 
These are implemented in a more resource-efficient manner compared to our offering for productive services, but still provide high availability and backups.
 

PostgreSQL Version

The currently supported versions of PostgreSQL can be found in the following table.

We will notify you in advance of any upcoming changes to a newer PostgreSQL version so that applications can be adjusted accordingly.
 

Offer

  • You will receive a PostgreSQL instance consisting of a single server.

  • An additional server for replication is not included by default.

  • The Kubernetes software solution ensures the most automated restoration of your instance in case of failure.

  • Each user is provided with one database.

  • The quota per user is 1GB by default.

  • Additional storage can be provided if needed.

  • We create database backups, which are retained for 14 days.

  • Restoration of a backup is done using PITR (Point In Time Recovery https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point-in-time_recovery).

  • This restores the entire database to the specified point in time.

  • If individual data restoration is necessary, a temporary clone can be created for you to export the needed data.

  • We handle the application of minor and major updates.

  • Authentication to the database is done using DESY credentials.

  • It is possible to add additional users with basic authentication (user + password).

 

Limitations

  • We do not provide support for your application.

  • We do not check the compatibility of your project with new PostgreSQL major versions.

  • We will notify you in advance of upcoming updates so that you can adjust your project for new versions.

  • We can provide a clone of your instance with the new version for testing purposes.

  • We do not handle the migration from external instances to an instance provided by us.

  • The database is only accessible from within the DESY network.

 

Special Conditions

  • We will notify you of critical updates, which we will then install within the next 24 hours (working hours).

  • During this time, the database will be temporarily unavailable.

 

Personal Data

If personal data is stored/processed in the database, you must inform the D4 group.
