pubcp4a0 plotter - public plotter at IT
At IT, we have a new public plotter whose features and innovations compared to its predecessor are explained here:
Equipment/features of the new plotter:
- It is an HP Designjet Z6dr inch printer with Adobe Postscript as printer language.
- the plotter is loaded with two paper rolls. As before, we use 36-inch (91.44 cm) wide paper (140g coated paper) on both roll positions, which is sufficient for A0. This means that if one roll of paper runs out outside normal working hours, the printer can continue printing from the other roll.
- Like its predecessor, it has a horizontal cut function to cut a printout from the roll. In addition, the new plotter has the option of a vertical trimmer, which can cut off white edges on both sides of the printout. Using the vertical cut eliminates the need for manual post-processing on the cutting machine. See below for instructions on use.
Use of the new plotter:
- We have set up a new print queue "pubcp4a0" on adprint11 for use under Windows. Please only use this new queue.
- On cups-hasylab, cups-hep, cups-m, cups-public, cups-uni, cups-xfel and cups-z there is a new queue "pubcp4a0plotter" for use under Linux and Mac
- To avoid misprints, please do not send any printouts without having checked the properties window of the print dialog. In particular, please ensure that the paper format of the document and the format of the desired output are set correctly.
- The paper quality set in the printer and in the print job must match. Therefore, please make sure that Paper source is set as "HP Heavyweight Coated Paper" in the print job.
- The horizontal cut is performed automatically. The vertical trimmer, on the other hand, must be activated and configured in the print job. To do this, please select the corresponding options in the properties window of the Windows print dialog (tab "advanced" and the settings for "output").
If you encounter any problems during use, please speak to the colleagues at the UCO. You can also contact the UCO by phone -5005 or email uco@desy.de.
During the introductory phase of the new plotter, more questions are sure to arise. We will use this page to give you even more tips in the future.
