Mail-Clients
Here at DESY there are different programs available to access your mails.
Following is a list of programs supported by DESY.

Zimbra webclientThe Zimbra webclient is available on every device with a web browser. You can access Zimbra by going to mail.desy.de in your browser or click on this address. More information about the Zimbra webclient can be found here. |
ThunderbirdThunderbird is available on Windows, Mac OS and Linux. As a desktop client it is an alternative to Outlook without any license cost. Unfortunately calendars are not supported by DESY. More information about Thunderbird is available here. |

Mobile DevicesIf you need to read emails on your smartphone or tablet while on the go, you also have the option to do this. More information is available here. |
Brief overview
Depending on which operating system you are using, different programs are available and therefore different functions are also available.
Please note that only the Zimbra webclient is a direct representation of your inbox. All other programs have their own local storage, the mails must first all be downloaded from the Zimbra server and stored locally. If there are problems with synchronization, often only the mail programs are affected and in the Zimbra web interface everything is displayed correctly.
Therefore: Please prefer to use the Zimbra web interface (https://mail.desy.de). Then use a locally installed e-mail/calendar program (e.g. Outlook) if
- the Zimbra web interface cannot be used efficiently (e.g. on smartphones or tablets)
- you need your data offline (e.g. on business trips)
- you need extended functions or a link to other programs (such as Word or enterprise resource planning)
