The WWW has evolved into a important information medium beyond the own area of expertise. It is important for DESY to offer informations for a large range of recipients. This contribute the image of DESY in the public.

Therefore it is very important that informations over DESY as well private Websites are compiled with a great care in view of the consequence. Hence the same criteria applies to other DESY - announcements too.

Especially care must be taken to ensure that.

• informations are correctly and up to date.
• only professional relevant informations are offered.
• the rules of privacy are observed.
• an unnecessary network load is avoided.
• a preferably uniform and correctly exterior form is holded.
• for any informations, which includes generally DESY, like e.g. addresses, functions of DESY etc., appropriate informations or texts of PR-department are used.
• no informations with commercial, religious or political content are disseminated.
• the published informations in the WWW are regularly checked and if necessary removed or refreshed.
• under no circumstances particulars of other persons are disseminated without their agreement.
• every website have to include a link to DESY-Imprint (Please take the link from the DESY-homepage)
• neither copyright protected content like e.g. logos, maps etc. without explicit, written permission are released.

WWW- Server at DESY

The WWW-Servers on the computers at DESY have to be applied over the team leader to the division manager and be announced to the IT, if you want that the servers are visible from the outside of DESY. In this claim is to designated a person responsible for content, which are offered over the server and a contact for technicial details. The person responsible for content is liable for adherence of the rules. This liability includes all links to other WWW-Websites, but not their current content.

Internal Server
WWW-Server for internal purpose, which are used for testing or other similar reasons, havent to be declared. You have to use the default-port 80. You arent visible from the outside of DESY. The carrier of a internal server is of course liable for the offering of the server. Internal server must not run as Proxy/Cache-Server, because the access restrictions could be avoided from the outside of DESY.

Personal WWW-Websites
Personal WWW-Websites could be created by one employee and contained personal informations over him and his work area.

At the creation of websites you need to be carefull that only these information are offered which has a focus on the work of the employee at DESY. The rules which are compiled to "general rules" are generally valid for personal websites, too. It is scheduled for the future that the access to these such websites are observed a standard with naming convention and to afford access over the general central WWW-server. This equal method is developed from IT.

Use of the WWW within Groups/Collaborations

The use of the WWW as a communicative tool inside of Groups/Collaborations are not subjected to these decribed rules, but it is the responsibility of the respective Groups/Collaborations, in case of it is secured, that the specific WWW-websites can only access from the members of the respective Groups/Collaborations.

Style and Layout of WWW-Websites

On behalf of one consistent exterior form for all DESY WWW-websites are offered special rules for style and layout like e.g the declaration of the author and the Creation of a date, the use of the DESY-logo, the design of the page header etc. For this purpose the PR-section together with the IT will allocate samples which are used for the creation of the websites.

Technical Advice

The group IT/DV (Hamburg/Zeuthen) advices and helps with technical problems or questions regarding the devices of WWW-servers or WWW-websites. You can ask questions like e.g. links from the homepage or discuss about other generally DESY-websites with IT.
