Configuration of the Nextcloud Sync Client for macOS
This documentation is valid until 17.10.2023 / 18 o'clock. From that time on, please use the new documentation, which you can find here.
This web page describes how you can view and work with your Sync & Share data directly in Windows Explorer. By not having the data locally, you save disk space compared to using the Sync & Share client. However, this may slow down access to the data at times because it is an active connection.
Preliminary Steps
Please create a so-called app password first to establish the connection. You do not need your regular account password for this type of connection.
How to create an app password can be found in the FAQ here in the section "How do I create a so called App Password?".
Setup the Client
Please install the Nextcloud Sync Client via the Munki Store.
You already have Munki? Open me the Nextcloud Installer in Munki.
Alternatively, you can also download the client from the Nextcloud homepage:
https://nextcloud.com/install/#install-clients
Run the downloaded file and follow the installation dialog.
Choose the drive, on which the Client shall be installed.
Please open the Client after the completion. Enter the server address https://syncandshare.desy.de.
Now enter your DESY account name and the app password you have created previously.
Here please select the button "Skip folder configuration". The reason for this is, that if you now select the folders to be synchronized, any new folder or file you add to your cloud will also be synchronized in the future.
This may lead to an overfilled local folder, and thus to less disk space on your computer.
Now choose which folders in your DESY Sync & Share you would like to synchronize. Click on "Add Folder Sync Connection".
Please select the local directory with which the data in the cloud should be synchronized.
Now select the folders from your cloud that you want to synchronize.
The file system now contains your Nextcloud folders, which are synchronized with your cloud-data (in both directions).
You will find the folders selected from the cloud in the file system in the "Nextcloud" directory.
You will find the Nextcloud icon in the upper toolbar.
