Password Self Help (Self Service Settings)

You can't remember your password or didn't change it in time? Under certain circumstances, you can reset your password yourself. We recommend that you make the necessary settings for this at https://password.desy.de in the Self Service Settings.

You must at least fulfil one of the following two requirements, in order to be able to reset your password independently:

  1. You're still logged in to your DESY email account on a device in order to receive emails there.
    OR
  2. You have set up 2-factor authentication for your account.

How can I set up / adjust 2-factor authentication to reset my password myself?

You can set a telephone number in Registry 2 as an additional...

  • ...telephone number.
  • ...define an alternative e-mail address.
  • ...create a TOTP-Secret.

  1. To do this, log in at https://password.desy.de.
  2. Select Password from the left menu.
  3. Click on Self Service Password Settings.

All further steps are explained there in German as well as in English.

For resetting

  1. To do this, open the website https://password.desy.de.
  2. Click on Password Recovery.
  3. Open the Token Generation app.
  4. Enter your username there, for which you want to reset the password.
  5. Click on Generate E-Mail Token or Generate SMS Token.
  6. You will receive a so-called. Security - Token (a sequence of characters) to the contact options you have stored in the registry 2 (2-factor authentication). Please read also the FAQ point "How can I set up / adjust the 2-factor authentication to reset my password myself?".

In all cases, the token is additionally sent to your Preferred Contact Address (PCA). You can view your PCA in Registry 2 on the Home - page under My Account.

  7. Follow one of the steps below:
    1. Specify a token and old password.
    2. Specify two tokens.

If you have not yet set up a 2-factor authentication to reset your password, we recommend that you do so. You can then easily set a new password for your account at any time, even from outside DESY.

If you are not able to reset your password yourself, please read the FAQ section "Who can reset my password?".
