Problems with printing on network printers (Print-Queues)

If you have questions/problems regarding printing, or if you want to create a printer on your PC, or if you want to delete a print job hanging on the server, please contact the Helpdesk/UCO (User Consulting Office) by mail or phone.
 
Please provide us with your name, telephone number, e-mail address and printer name. Be as specific as possible about the nature of the problem and specify:
  • From which application program you are printing (e.g. Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe Reader, Browser).
  • On which print queue of the printer you are printing.
  • If it is a DESY PC and with which operating system it is equipped.
  • In which network your PC is located (DESY network, Eduroam or Science Hotspot/guest network).

Hardware problems with printers

Ricoh rented devices

For all Ricoh printers rented through IT, the UCO is responsive to hardware problems and will notify a Ricoh technician:in if necessary. For this purpose, it is helpful to send a detailed description of the problem to uco@desy.de. In case of problems with the print quality, a scanned print sample can also be helpful (as long as the confidentiality of the printout does not speak against it).

Plotters and other printers

For large format printers, the UCO will provide full support for the public plotter pubcp4a0plotter in building 2b.

For all other printers/plotters, the group that procured the printer is responsible. This pertains to:
 
  • Order consumables such as ink/toner, print heads, paper.
  • Replace consumables
  • Support during handling of the device
  • Repairs inside and outside the manufacturer's warranty
The UCO will only assist with these printers/plotters procured from other groups with questions regarding the print queues provided on our servers.
 

Consumables

The group that procured the printer is always responsible for ordering and replacing consumables.

 

Ricoh rental equipment

Toner cartridges required for the rented printer can be obtained without charge by placing an e.biss order at the DESY warehouse. Please order toner only when the printer reports that the toner is about to run out. Please do not manage your own stock. For some older Ricoh models, waste toner containers are also available at the DESY warehouse. Waste toner containers of newer Ricoh models, as well as image drums, are sent by Ricoh to the printer location by parcel service in individual cases. For this purpose, a malfunction must be reported to Ricoh via the UCO (if the printer has not yet submitted this report itself).
 
Staples for the finishers of Ricoh multifunction printers are available for a fee at the DESY warehouse via an e.biss ordering. The staples are not included in the rental price.

Plotters and other printers

Consumables for these printers/plotters are the responsibility of the group that procured the device.
