For security reasons, DESY users are required to change their password every six months. It must have a length between 8 and 14 characters and consist of three of the four categories (upper & lower case letters, numbers and special characters).

Please never use the DESY password for other accounts, not even for your private accounts.

Important! After changing the password, your computer must connect to the internal DESY network once before the password change is complete. Please refer to the section "After the password change" which you will find further down on this page.

Choosing a secure password

1.Think of a sentence that contains at least one number and one special character.

2.Remember the first letter of each word.

3.Congratulations! You have now received a secure password.

Example: "I like to go shopping three times a week!" The password would then be: "Iltgs3*taW!"

Passwords should never be stored unencrypted on the computer or stuck to the screen on the famous note or be accessible to others.

If you want to write down passwords, you should keep them under lock and key or save them in an encrypted file on your computer, e.g. in a password manager.

Password change via the registry

Please note that changing your password may take several minutes. Please be patient.

Until the password change becomes active, you can continue to log in with your old password.

After changing your password

After changing your password, you must log in again on your device to make the password change effective. This requires a connection to the internal DESY network.

1.Establish a connection to the internal DESY network.Use VPN if you are in home office.

2.Lock your device e.g. with the key combination "Windows key + L"

3.Now log in with your new password.

The old password retains its effect as long as you do not connect to your device with the internal DESY network.

I forgot my password

If you have forgotten your password, you have the following options to reset it.

Resetting your password via Registry Self Service Portal (recommended)

Via namespace administrators of groups

Passwords can be reset by namespace administrators of their group.

The list of namespace administrators of groups can be found here. The persons marked in blue on the list have permission to reset passwords of other DESY accounts.

Via IT Helpdesk

The DESY IT Helpdesk (UCO) is also available to reset your password. Please bring a photo ID with you for changing your password.
